FIVE GRAND, FIVE DAYS

THANK YOU to our many generous donors of money, advice, and time in 2011. Your offers of support are the reasons we continue publishing The Independent.

The FIVE DAYS have passed. The express train with it. We're looking for $2635 to board the commuter rail to FIVE GRAND. You can still help us get to 2012:

WHY DONATE?

We only ask once a year. And because of our dedicated team of volunteers, our request is very modest: Five Grand is the bare minimum needed to keep The Independent going through 2012. Here's what we've given you in 2011:

  • We preserved 30 years of vital independent film history by insuring that Harvard College Libraries, Library of Congress, and Pacific Film Archive house complete print collections of The Independent Film & Video Monthly. An investigation into digitizing and making all back issues available here, free, is now underway. Learn more about our Archive Preservation Project.
  • We reported from New Directors/New Films, SXSW, Tribeca, New York Film Festival, and most recently, IDFA. On September 11th, we brought you 10 films by Afghan filmmakers courtesy of Community Supported Film.
  • We brought you one of our favorite features, 10 to Watch in 2011, with exclusive interviews on Facebook.
  • We Tweeted our first "story" ever: Tips on festival submissions, and followed up later in the year with all kinds of tips on getting indie films made and seen.
  • We believed in the story that you need and want to tell--without strings, without bias--for an audience that respects and demands independence.
  • Thank you. Every kind of support enables us to keep bringing you word from the streets and the fields of independent media-making.
