island? what island

eh? iam a bit cofused by your description of an island of asylum seekers of ireland-do you mean the isle of man?
there is no island of asylum seekers-and to be fair i dont think the film has ever set out to claim there was, in fact these asylum seekers are 'housed' in a former holiday camp in the middle of rural ireland!

It is of course an improvement on the situations from which they came-nobody leaves their homeland to travel around the world and end up in a place like mosney unless their lives and those of their family literally depends on it. But even though they are firly on terra firma on mainland ireland, the stigmatisation, distrust and alienation that many face on a daily basis means that at least figuratively speaking the description of being stuck on an isolated island off mainland ireland isnt that far off the truth.
